What extra Employer Benefits do you bring?

So you've read the job description and you know all the skills for which is asks. And you've thought about how to present your abilities in all these areas.

Good. You are on your way to getting well prepared for the interview.

But, in these increasingly tough economic times, you need to bring more to the table.

Most employers right now are not having any trouble at all finding people to hire. It's an employers market out there.

So for you to be successful, you have to show the employer that, yes, you have all these skills you read about, but that you also have more ...

To prepare for this, put yourself in the position of the employer. What, that is not listed on the job description, would you like your new employee to have?

Any specific other experience or skill that would be a bonus? What personality, personal qualities would be the best fit for the job? Are there any other skills or experience you used elsewhere that would be transferrable and a bonus for the employer?

I once gained a contract as a freelance Career Consultant because I offered, over my training and experience in this area, the skill of being a handwriting analyst as well. This was not something the employer had ever thought of looking for, but when he saw it on my resume, he decided it would be a very neat addition to the regular career tools.

I still had to get through the interview, and convince him that I was good in all the usual areas of Career Counselling, but this was my "bonus" that I could offer, and it worked.

So, take the time to think about your uniqueness. What have you done, what personal qualities do you have that the employer may not think to ask about, and perhaps is not even aware he is seeking, but which would greatly interst the employer and make him or her decide on you over other job applicants.
