Smile at the Interview

Smile at the interview - even if you feel like crying!

Remember, the interviewer doesn't know you. He or she may be nervous themselves - interviewers, especially in smaller companies, often are.

Plus part of what the interview is all about is deciding whether you are a fit for not only the job but also a fit for the organization, and the team with which you will be working.

Nervous or not, if you look and act very stern and serious throughout the entire interview, it will make it more difficult for the interviewer to assess your personality.

This does not mean you should laugh and joke your way through, or laugh like a total idiot all the time. With everything there is balance.

A pleasant smile where appropriate is all that is needed, but is often neglected by stressed or extremely uptight job applicants.

So walk in that door with a smile on your face. Remember to smile occasionally throughout the interview, and again when you shake hands to leave.

It's easy, it costs you nothing, and you can do it whether you think you have a good chance at the job or not.

So smile.
